-  "I got the call on a Sunday afternoon while working the chains at my 9-year-old son's football game. 🚁An SA-342 Gazelle gunship helicopter had crashed into a river in a remote jungle in northeastern Ecuador with two American special ops servicemembers aboard. 👨🏼‍🎤The Ecuadorian pilot was killed. One of the Americans, a Navy SEAL, escaped without injury, but the other, a Navy lieutenant, lost his lower left leg in the mishap.

Since the lieutenant was assigned to a unit at Hurlburt Field, Fla., I had been selected to serve on the mishap investigation board. "Why me?" I thought.

Being tasked to serve on one of these boards is almost never convenient. The calls come in the middle of family vacations, on wedding anniversaries, during children's birthday parties ... and football games. At the drop of a hat, safety investigators are taken away from family and normal duties at home units for nearly 40 days and 40 nights.

It's not easy suddenly changing roles. In my case, which took place in 1996, I went from piloting MH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters to investigating a major mishap in a foreign country.

And I won't lie; it's overwhelming when you walk up to the wreckage of a mishap and realize you have to sift through thousands of pieces of evidence. You're thinking, "How am I going to figure this out?"

Where's Matlock, Magnum P.I. or Sherlock Holmes when you need them? But when I got there, I realized I simply had to put trust in my training.

To serve on a mishap board, investigators will have completed intense safety courses at the Air Force Safety Center. With its insightful instruction, which includes a crash lab, they become well-prepared for the daunting task they face.

As investigators go through the process taught, the "Ah, ha!" moment will come. However, as the 16-hour days pile up, most will have some "Why me?" moments as well. Nevertheless, the importance of what they're doing won't be lost.

These professionals will determine what happened and why. They will find existing deficiencies, and then come up with recommendations that will save lives in the future.

In the case of the downed helicopter in Ecuador, we identified some problems and made recommendations that helped change special ops training programs for the better. These recommendations are still helping protect our aircrew members to this day. Moreover, we ensured that the lieutenant didn't lose his leg in vain.

Why me? ... Why such a system?

"Thousands of electric generators are piled on Guayaquil docks and in warehouses, many of them unclaimed, according to business organizations. “There could be 20,000 there, some of them already paid for, but no one wants them,” says Fabricio Cornejo, spokesman for the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce. “There was a rush of orders in late November and early December and then the power blackouts ended.”

Cornejo believes almost a third of the generators have been paid for, fully or in part, but buyers have not made arrangements for delivery. “Even more of a problem, many of the units were delivered from China on spec from distributors who now don’t want to pay for them.” In November the market was overwhelmed by demand for generators but since December 20 demand has collapsed.

According to Cornejo, many of the orders were based on information provided by the national weather service (INAMHI), predicting that drought conditions would continue until March or April. “When Noboa said blackouts would end December 20, we thought he was crazy and believed they would return in late January or February.

 12DEC24 "Ecuador State Attorney General Diana Salazar joins Argentine President Javier Milei, Brasilian Minister Marina Silva, and Spanish fútbol player Jenni Hermoso on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2024.

The full list was announced on December 12 and includes Artists, Icons, Titans, Leaders, Innovators and Pioneers. In addition, it is complemented by the election of the Person of the Year, who in 2024 is none other than the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump.

Last April 2024, Time had already anticipated that Salazar would be part of the prestigious list that is announced each year. What does Time say about prosecutor Salazar? The magazine has included Salazar in the list of the 100 most influential leaders.

An official document from CENACE’s report has been leaked, stating the following:

"WORKING AT LOW LEVEL DAMAGED A TURBINE IN MAZAR"

CENACE is requesting between 12 and 14 hours of blackouts...

But the serious part is in the last line...

It doesn’t say "to prevent collapse"

But rather "To reduce the risk of collapse."

24-Hour Power Outages Planned by Empresa Eléctrica Quito in Industrial Sectors from November 10 to 14

The Ecuadorian government has announced an increase in power outage hours between November 10 and 14, 2024. This comes amidst a severe energy crisis in the country, driven by factors like lack of investment and low water levels.

“At this moment, we do not have the conditions to maintain just six hours. We need to increase the hours,” announced Energy Minister Inés Manzano in an interview with Ecuavisa on November 8.

The acting Energy Minister, Inés Manzano, stated that the blackouts could last up to eight hours per day.

In certain areas of Quito, however, the power outage will last 24 hours, meaning no electricity for five consecutive days.

Details can be found on page eight of the Empresa Eléctrica Quito schedule, published on its website.

A total of 24-hour outages over five days are planned for three substations that serve industrial areas"
