02MAY25 "After days of official silence and the death of eight Achuar children, the Minister of Health, Edgar Lama, will travel this Saturday, May 3 to Huasaga Parish. But his presence does not respond to an initiative of his own: his departure was ordered directly by President Daniel Noboa, who is in the middle of an international tour of Europe and Asia Minor. Lama leads a procession of 15 people, among them several Galenos, who will try to establish the causes of deaths that have bereaved to this indigenous community of Morona Santiago.

So far, neither the Ministry of Health nor any authority has been able to clearly identify the disease that is taking lives in this remote part of the country. The late reaction from the State has sparked outrage among the local population. Citizens and community leaders criticize the Government acting only out of pressure and not out of conviction or real commitment to public health in historically forgotten territories.

The minister will leave from Guayaquil to Macas, where he will meet with another entourage coming from Quito. Together, they'll head to Huasaga, but with more questions than answers. "If the president hadn't given the order, nobody would be coming," lamented a local leader. Communities expect urgent answers, but above all, concrete action.

The presence should serve in territory to verify the reality of the Amazonia and manage solutions in this new and complete government and not to be forgotten the death of innocent children and the government response is real and committed. This must also change the health authorities in the zonal and in the entire province of Morona Santiago, as many of them obey the last governments on shift who did little to improve the health system in the Amazon...." -
